EXAMINATION for HRUK CERTIFICATE OF ACCREDITATION

Registration for the examination in 2010 closed on Friday 26th February 2010.

The examination takes place on Friday 26th March 2010. The HRUK Certificate of Accreditation comprises two components: the exam and logbook. The choice of 3 venues where candidates will be sitting the exam in 2010 are:

• •  London - St George's Hospital , Tooting
  •  Manchester - Allen Hall, Fallowfield Campus
  •  Belfast - Belfast City Hospital

The examination has continued to be revised since 2006. In 2009, the number of questions increased to 100, although remained in a similar format with 60 core questions and 40 speciality questions over 3 hours. The popularity of the certificate is increasing and the standard is also improving.

There is also a logbook to be completed. There are 6 logbooks in total - click desired item to view or download. For actual assessment purposes these logbooks are being used by both 2009 and now 2010 candidates. The Accreditation Committee has concentrated this year on improving the quality of the examination and has decided not to change the logbooks this year. The Committee have started a process of revision of the logbooks and these changes will be instituted from 2011.

For candidates who will be sitting the exam on 26 March 2010, this is just a reminder that your logbook can be started from the date that you registered for the examination and must then be completed by 31 December 2010. As a rule, requests for logbook extensions must always be submitted in writing (and not by telephone) to hruk@bcs.com giving full reasons why an extension is being sought, and requests will then be considered on a case by case basis by the Exam Committee. Please note that extension requests require clear mitigating circumstances (eg. ill-health, pregnancy) and not simply failure to achieve cases.

For any potential candidate considering taking the exam in the future, you can currently view the 1999 and 2000 exam papers, though as mentioned earlier, the standard of the examination is also improving. We will also shortly publish some representative questions for the devices and EP sections on the HRUK website as these questions are more up to date and representative of the standard required than previous examination papers.

A list of frequently asked questions mainly about the HRUK logbooks compiled from candidates actual enquiries and HRUK’s responses will also be made available on the website in due course.

Cost: The 2010 exam registration fee was £180.00 for non-HRUK members and £150.00 for current and paying HRUK members. If you are interested in joining HRUK, please click here.

A reminder for the 2009 exam candidates who intend to re-sit the part of the examination that they failed on 20 February 2009, as previously agreed by the exam committee, you do not have to pay again to resit on 26th March 2010. When completing the online registration form, you are just required to register again as a resitting candidate for our administrative purposes.

Candidates who failed the entire examination on 20 February 2009 and have decided to resit the exam on 26 March 2010, will be required to pay the full examination fee as appropriate of £180.00 or £150.00, and register as a new candidate.

Please note that if you decide to cancel your registration booking, an administrative fee of £25.00 will be applied.
